  CAREER FAIR FOR WABASEEMOONG SCHOOL STUDENTS Minimize

January 9, 2008 ~ WHITEDOG — The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) organized a career fair Tuesday at Wabaseemoong School to introduce students, Grades 7-12, to careers in the natural resources sector.

The day-long event kicked off with MNR Provincial Conservation Officer Canine Handler, Bryon Cosgrove, and his black Labrador retriever cross, Riggs, demonstrating how they uncover evidence and track violators, to protect Ontario’s natural resources.

 

Carolyn Henry, Wabaseemoong School Grade 12 student, takes a look at drinking water training and technology with Al Ranger, Professor, Faculty of Engineering Technology, Confederation College of Applied Arts and Technology, in the Walkerton Clean Water Centre's Mobile Testing Unit, at the Wabaseemoong School Career Fair.

 

 

 

 

Students also toured the Walkerton Clean Water Centre’s Mobile Training Unit (MTU) which provides drinking water training and technology demonstrations for owners, operators and operating authorities of drinking water systems at small and remote communities across northwestern Ontario. The MTU is also used to provide a one-day course that includes hands-on treatment training. It is equipped with a computer; chemical feed system; ultraviolet demonstration units; an ultrafiltration membrane demonstration unit; and, a water quality laboratory with many measuring devices. 

Other presenters included Ministry of the Environment; Ministry of Northern Development and Mines; Ministry of Government and Consumer Services; Indian and Northern Affairs Canada; Ontario Provincial Police; Weyerhaeuser Company; Moncrief Construction Ltd; Lakehead University; and, Confederation College.
