THE SEARCH FOR CHRISTINA CALAYCA

THUNDER BAY, ON - June 11, 2008 - Family Members travel to Thunder Bay in Search of Answers 

Toronto, ON – In August 2007, twenty year-old Christina Calayca was on a summer camping trip in Rainbow Falls Provincial Park (near Thunder Bay) when she disappeared. She hasn’t been seen since.  The OPP conducted a 17-day initial search for her, before suspending their efforts. Stetson out for the OPP

THUNDER BAY, ON, - March 27, 2008 - CTV News reports the police association pitched Julian Fantino the idea to Commissioner Julian Fantino to return to the more  traditional cap instead of the wide-brimmed, Stetson-style Cowboy hats  they currently wear since until 1997. Christina Calayca Search to Resume in June

THUNDER BAY,ON ~  March 20, 2008 - The Ontario Provincial Police announced that the search for Christina Calayca will resume in June '08.

The OPP announced that the search will likely take a week and will include officers trained in high angle search and rescue and cadaver dogs. Calayca was last seen on the morning of Aug. 6, 2007 during a camping trip with friends at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park, about 180 kilometres east of Thunder Bay. read more....>

Off Duty OPP officer Charged

February 13, 2008 ~ Thunder Bay ~   The victim of an aggravated assault which occurred on February 9th on Thornloe Drive has been charged with assault.  It is alleged that the man struck a 17 year old female prior to his own assault which occurred outside of his residence.  The female sustained a minor injury. read more......>

 

 Search called off bad weather

November 13, 2007  -  Rainbow Fall Provincial Park - Ontario Provincial Police had hoped to resume their search for Christina Calayca this week, but had to cancel because of bad weather.

 Veteran bush pilot dies in float-plane crash

October 12, 2007  Rescue workers recovered the body of a lone pilot yesterday whose floatplane crashed in northwestern Ontario.

Provincial police said the airplane was discovered submerged in Kearns Lake, a remote area off highway 527, north of Thunder Bay, after hunters notified them of a possible crash Thursday evening. The same night, police learned a plane was overdue for returning from transporting people in the area. more...>
