THUNDER BAY, ON. - April 18, 2008 – Friday afternoon, Ken Boshcoff M.P. Thunder Bay-Rainy River represented the Liberal Caucus at a private meeting between select members of the Parliamentary Friends of Tibet and the Dalai Lama in Ann Arbour Michigan..
Boshcoff presented a letter to the Dalai Lama from Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion which expressed support for the Tibetan people. Mr. Dion wrote, “I am encouraged by your efforts to reach out to the government of China and we strongly encourage the government of China to engage the Tibetan people in a constructive manner that respects human rights and Tibet’s cultural identity.”
Following the meeting, Boshcoff remarked, “The Dalai Lama expressed his feeling of helplessness due to the increasing turmoil. He encouraged support for the Olympics while recognizing that ‘it is right to remind the world of China’s poor human rights record.’ He also stressed that Tibet’s supporters are not anti-Chinese but rather pro-justice.”
At the next meeting of the Parliamentary Friends of Tibet, Boshcoff will propose the concept of a “peace pin” to indicate solidarity in the quest for self-government.
