 Little Mosquito Speedway Minimize

THUNDER BAY, ON - June 1, 2008 - Little Mosquito Speedway has gone through a spring Little Mosquito Raceway renovation. In fact many members were anxious to try out the new track even before the finishing touches were complete. I can’t say as I blame them. “The new facility will make this track as good or better than facilities in the States”, says Dave Lazzali of the Lakehead Remote Control Car Club.

It certainly is the best facility in Northwestern Ontario, for as far as we know it is the only such track in the area. The LRCCC is a not for profit club. That is why they have been able to secure the support of the city for their little racetrack. This year the city donated several truckloads of earth, needed for the renovations. The city also supplied a generator so the club can use their computerized timing system for races. The city realizes that this club involves families, and they use the park regularly all summer long.

Little Mosquito Raceway There are several things that are appealing in this activity. For one thing the costs are reasonable. LRCCC membership fees cost about $20 a year plus a $5 entry fee for each race. This provides the club with sufficient funds for a good barbeque at the end of the season, and money for trophies. They never compete for prize money.

There is a lot of creative energy in this activity. While members waited to get on the track they continued to fuss and fine-tune their model cars. They can spend as much time and money on their models as a garage mechanic could restoring a 1970 Dodge Charger. The difference is I could afford to restore the Dodge, but I couldn’t afford to drive it.

For the cost of a couple of good speeding tickets, you too can get into model car racing at Little Mosquito Raceway. There is something about this that appeals to the juvenile in all of us, and it is fun, safe, and legal.
