 Terrace Bay Schreiber website launched

November 29, 2007 Terrace Bay   The townships partnered up and contracted TBayIT to create a good looking and user friendly site that can be shared between both towns and still have their own individual presence on the Internet. This site servers as an informative site for local residents (Live), economic and business information for new and potential businesses (Work) and a tourism information (Play).

The site incorporates three separate web sites:
• Township of Schreiber at www.schreiber.ca
• Township of Terrace Bay at www.terracebay.ca
• Shared site at www.schreiberterracebay.ca or www.terracebayschreiber.ca

Navigating to any of the home pages will initially bring up the shared welcome page and divert you to the specific pages of either township. Navigating further will bring you to the shared features on the shared portion of the web site.

Some of the shared features include:
Shared Calendar for Local Events
Business Directory using the Google Maps API
Local Job Bank for Employment Opportunities
Shared Guest Book for Residents and Tourists
Send a Postcard to a Friend Feature
Panoramas and Videos Showcasing the Beautiful Scenery

Not all the credit can be taken by us, the marketing committee and local residents of the Townships played an integral part in the development of the web site. All the photos used were submitted by local residents in a recent photo competition. By far this is one of our favourite projects to date.

 Schreiber/Terrace Bay Launch Website Minimize

November 26, 2007 Schreiber Terrace Bay  The Township of Terrace and the Township of Schreiber would like to announce the launch of their new websites to be held on Thursday, November 29th at 1:00-2:00 at the Terrace Bay municipal office and from 3:00-4:00 at the Schreiber Training Centre. The website is a joint project that demonstrates the ability of the two towns to work together. The website was designed by Thunder Bay company TBayIT and shares the strengths of the two communities while maintaining some level of autonomy. The web addresses www.schreiber.ca and www.terracebay.ca will direct users to a central ‘shared page”

Visitors can then click on Schreiber or Terrace Bay to be directed to those unique websites. When surfing within the unique websites of each town, users can select pages unique to a town (for example council information or municipal service information) or click on a page that is shared with the other town (for example the business directory, community events calendar, and job bank will be shared with the other community).

The website utilizes local photographs from the recently held North Shore Picture Challenge instead of stock images to show the world the local perspective and show residents that may have left the communities what their friends and family are up to and how they are doing.

Some of the innovative features of the website include:

  • Free job bank – free of charge for businesses and government to utilize
  • Shared community calendar - Residents can submit events for approval
  • Updated business directory - Businesses can update directory profiles
  • Business Opportunities section - For advertising sale of land and buildings
  • Email postcard function – send off electronic emailed pictures of local landmarks
  • Regional map database – collection of various street and activity maps
  • A picture and video gallery – quick streaming video clips of local landmarks and images
  • Tourism information packages – accommodations, dining, and attractions information
  • What’s New section – update of recent events in the towns

This project has been ongoing since May 2006 with a local committee including the following persons: Sean Irwin (Chair), Janet Adey MacDonald, Lila Cresswell, Anthony Friedrich, Charles Kneipp, Dean Main, Michelle Malashewski, Mike Moore, Stephen Roberts, Michael Squier, Marilyn Turcotte. Mark Walther from TBayIT has been instrumental in the design of the project and the affordable cost of $5,000 per township with operating costs incurred in a portion of someone wages conservatively estimated at $5,000/year. Funding was received from NOHFC for the design costs of the project.

One of the key features of the website is that it is user driven. Meaning local residents will be able to submit events by completing an online form that will be emailed to municipal staff for approval as opposed to municipal staff time being used in completing the form. This user driven feature will also be utilized in the business directory for businesses to update their own information and profile and the job bank for businesses to submit (free of charge) employment opportunities.

All those wishing to attend the launch are welcome:
Thursday, November 29th       1:00-2:00 at the Terrace Bay Municipal Office
3:00-4:00 at the Schreiber Training Centre.
